Indeed, I do know why people pray to god and that is the same reason I look down upon it why? You have been programmed to believe that somethings you can't do without god. Everything your non-existent friend "can" do you can do it on your own. The cold hard truth is that you have become dependent of your imaginary friend and have become fully useless facing problems because you think God will fix them for you. How many people have prayed for a better world and yet sit on their asses and not try and make a change? If you want something done you go and do it. Not get on your knees and scream at a cross for help.
No one is 'programmed' to do anything, anything a person does is by choice. Loads of people pray all the time and just expect something to happen I agree with you there but sometimes that's all they can do because companies or local shops won't give them any chances and people become depressed and end up doing nothing.
There is ALWAYS something you can do and it is not praying. You need to analyze your practical choices and act on them. The only situation where you do not have an escape is when you are about to die. Only death takes your choices away. Yes people have been programmed. Just look around you. The mega promotion of God and religion make people believe he is the only one that can get you trough anything. Nobody believes in themselves or on the power of will and determination. "Oh my car has no gas. Instead of walking 3 blocks to get some gas into the portable carrier I have on my trunk I will grab my crucifix and pray that the tanks fills itself."
