Honestly wouldn't buy more room than you need. Between costs and maintenance, having just a few extra feet to walk around in is not really worth it imho. People buy large and then later regret it and this happens often. Then later in life, they decide they got smart and want to downsize so they are looking for a place all over again.

Depends where you live, I would prefer living in a house outside the city, but if you have a job, then imo apartament is better because it is located in the city

I prefer to stay in an apartment due to the low cost of maintenance. Buying a house in the city is out of bounds for me. Post retirement, I plan to buy a house in the countryside so that I can pursue my hobby of gardening as well keep a few pets. Weekend barbeque parties would also be on my list.

My choice will most certainly be a house. A house with a lot of free space outside so that I can landscape to my liking. I can have my own garden, a swimming pool and of course not worry about sharing with public. From hygiene point of view, I prefer my own pool.

I personally believe that if you're going to invest long term, always a house. I know people(like family or friends) who have been renting the same apartment for $800 a month for the past 15+ years. With those payments, you could easily pay off the mortgage to a house
