Well the opinion in the title is an opinion that first formed in my head back in the fifth grade when we learned a little about Rome. When I got to HS I started taking Latin, and in Latin class we have learned much about Rome, all of which asserts my opinion more. While at the Library today I saw a book titled "Are We Rome?" by Cullen Murphy. I didn't have time to read it all, but it was about this topic. So what I would like to ask AF is whats your opinion on this?

I'm sorry if I offend any Americans, but the United States has no power what so ever. It is drowning slowly with internal AND external debt. The United States is manipulated. Its strength compared to other nations around the world may be equal to the strength of the Roman empire, but the United States is just a manipulated super-power. If there's one nation/power equal to the Roman Empire, it would have to be China, with a humongous population, trained and ready to do what they are told to do so.

This is why I think we are Rome. Once upon a time, we were like Gods, but now we are falling in to disarray from "barbarians" (Middle East, sorry if that's offensive). Take a look at some history books .

Let's look at GDP to national debt. All figures are in USD.

United States:

GDP: ~15.094 trillion, or 15,094,000,000,000
Debt: ~16.441 trillion, or 16,441,000,000,000

GDP/Debt : ~92%


France:

GDP: ~2.253 trillion, or 2,253,000,000,000
Debt: ~5.633 trillion, or 5,633,000,000,000

GDP/Debt: ~40%

Greece:

Look at the per capita of US (52,170) compared to France (74,619).

US is much more in debt in comparison to their earnings looking at the population and required upkeep. With as many citizens as the US has, the amount in numbers isn't worth much. You have to look at it in % of both income and expendatures.
