What is Truecrypt?

True Crypt is a Free open-source disk encryption software for Windows 7/Vista/XP, Mac OS X, and Linux.

Main Features:

Creates a virtual encrypted disk within a file and mounts it as a real disk.

Encrypts an entire partition or storage device such as USB flash drive or hard drive.

Encrypts a partition or drive where Windows is installed (pre-boot authentication).

Encryption is automatic, real-time (on-the-fly) and transparent.

Parallelization and pipelining allow data to be read and written as fast as if the drive was not encrypted.

Encryption can be hardware-accelerated on modern processors.

Provides plausible deniability, in case an adversary forces you to reveal the password:

Hidden volume (steganography) and hidden operating system.

Why Do I Want To Use Truecrypt?

If the police were ever to take your computer you would not want them seeing the illegal stuff on your computer would you?

Install
First, goto www.truecrypt.org, click on downloads and choose your operation system. Then Click Download.

install the truecrypt.

Once you have it installed it should look like this:

Creating A Truecrypt Volume

Now click create volume: http://screensnapr.com/v/V2wCez.jpg

Choose if you want to encrypt your whole computer of just a file folder. A file folder is what it sounds like. You can mount it and drop files into it. We will talk about this more later.

For this tut we are just going to make a file folder.

Click next and now stranded truecrypt volume.

Click next. This is were you want to select where you want the encrypted file stored.

Click next, now choose what kind of encryption you want to use. I just use the default, is AES and standard hash encryption.

next, choose the volume size. The bigger the longer it will take to encrypt. This will be the size of the encrypted file.

After you choose how big you want is click next:

This is where you enter your password; make is long and with different letter types. Make sure you remember this password as there is no way of recovering it. Also make sure the password is very long. Some thing like this:

*just a note your password word will be hidden unlike mine.

After you confirm your password click next.

Leave the setting as the default and make sure random pool is checked.

Now click format.

You have just created your first Truecrypt Volume Congratulations!

Okay, thats great now how do i use it?

This is very simple. Open True crypt again select what drive you want the folder mounted on.

see the part were you can select a folder:

Click select file and goto where you created the truecrypt volume:

Once you have selected the file click mount:http://screensnapr.com/v/MNt8mE.jpg

Now you will be prompted for a password just enter your password and click ok.

Now if you want to open the folder just click on what drive you mounted the file on.

Now you can drag stuff to that folder and when your done just go back to truecrypt and click dismount:

A tutorial like this is how I learned to encrypt my files.
You are doing a great favor to people that are new to the computer scene.
Very nice. Smile

I'll be setting up Truecrypt on my laptop within the hour. I had it before, but I had decided to get rid of it when I formatted last night.

I do. It slows your r/w speed by a bit, but it is totally worth it!

Look at hackforums. There's many threads on SQLi, and people keep making threads about it. Calm down...

Yeah - nothing wrong with two. I doubt EquinoxRhyme is mad.
