Time To Get Glasses #1
Greetings everyone,

So after 20+ years of hammering my PCs day In, day out, the time has arrived to get glasses. My vision Is fine whilst on my systems- I have no Issues whatsoever there. However long-distance Is problematic. Some days It's not too bad, whilst other days becomes a blur to some degree. As such, I get migraines. I made the appointment today and shall see the eye doctor the following week.

Those who've gone through the transition, what's It like for the very first time when wearing glasses?

You may have headaches at first. I have had stigmatism added to my contacts and it's like I went from hd to 4k lol. You will notice a difference and the headaches will go away if any over time.

I had glasses since I was a little kid, but from what I remember it hurts your head a little for the first couple of weeks and everything looks funny, but after a few weeks it gets better and you don't notice it. What's your prescription? If it's not to low it probably won't hurt much

I used to wear glasses to blur my vision, I am almost deaf so my eyesight is still like an eagle, but back in school I would get migraines and nosebleeds from trying to read, to this day if I am going to read a book or anything where I will be spending hours at a time with small font I wear a pair of plastic 1$ glasses that are scratched to all hell. Helps me keep focus and keeps me from popping aspirin like skittles.

I haven't seen the eye doctor as yet. I made the appointment earlier today, so I shall get a full examination next week.

Thanks for your advice and everyone who've posted thus far. You've all been a big help with what to expect.

It's strange, because growing up I always heard computers would affect my eyesight later in life. I still have 20/15 vision. Maybe it has to do with what kind of monitor you use or how often you take breaks. That being said, I did wear prescription glasses when I was younger.

I have the same issue as you my friend, though I haven't been in the IT field for so long. I can see fine on TV/PC screens, and from closeby I can also see fine. It's the small letters at a (semi)long distance where I have troubles with.

I personally don't want glasses because I think it doesn't look good on me, but sooner or later, I can't deny the problem any longer I'm afraid.
~~ Might be back? ~~

When I first wore glasses, it was very trippy. Like everything was so close to me. My left vision is so poor that I cannot even see faces that well from a distance. My right vision is not too bad but definitely better than my left. Before the time I was able to afford glasses, I relied on my right eye the most during my high school days. Now, I have to get new ones because my vision on the left eye changed.

Don't know if this would help anyone but there is a software called Flux that helps reduce eye strains by tinting the screen orange. It helps me a lot.

In response to all above, I'm fine on my PCs, I have no problem whatsoever In viewing and distinguishing all chars. Even the smallest of fineprint Is easily viewed. It's viewing distant objects that's the Issue. For example, when I go outdoors and walk along the sidewalk and look at car's license plates (as they pass by) It's a blur- particularly when I'm out for a long period of time.

@Oni, perhaps you're right with the monitor and lack of breaks. It may well have contributed to where my vision stands today.
@Bish0pQ, the small letters "from a distance" Is also problematic for me.
@Asura, You've nailed It. Distant viewing Is an Issue for me In all facets, Inclusive of distinguishing faces.
@"n3r0x1d3", you may well be correct. I'll see what my examination reveals next week.

Once again, thanks kindly to everyone with your replies. You've truly helped a lot.
