Surge protection can only protect up to so much, and a boat load of capacitors unloading could easily bridge this.

And when I say bridge, I mean the electricity will literally bridge over/around the surge protection, usually jumping to different concurrent tracks.

Perhaps you're right, but how can a usb generate enough voltage to do this?

It doesn't generate, it stores. It's like charging up a battery, but then it releases all the power in one instance.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor

It's an electrical component that's a little like a bucket. It stores the power, and when it's full it releases it all, and charges again. It's what's used in your camera flash, and why you have to charge up old disposable camera flashes. It's also used in light dimmers to regulate the current.

EDIT: Also, voltage and current are two completely different things.

In my honest opinion, I declare this as bullshit. Instead of a "Killer USB-drive", a baseball bat would be much more believable.

Good luck getting into a important person's office with a baseball bat.

You have a point. My backup plan would be a screwdriver or multi-tool kind of object. You could silently unscrew the cover of the tower or laptop, and then smash all of the components with it.

That is true, but impossible to do within a 5 second time frame whilst passing by.

That's why I have another backup plan: Sneak-in a handgun, and shoot the computer rapidly. That can be accomplished within a five-second time frame.
