Talking on the Phone or Texting? 04-23-2013, 10:08 AM

I am someone who really prefers to text people instead of talking to them on the phone. The phone can be awkward, and you can end up talking to a person on it longer than you originally wanted to because of the illusion of proximity that the phone gives off.
But with texting, it maintains this distance, and you don't have to respond straight away, hence eliminating that pressure lol. Because of all of this, I prefer to text people.
Which do you prefer?

Texting is a lot easier and quicker if you ask me. When you're on the phone you generally can't do other things at the same time, whereas with texting you have time to reply and don't need to instantly reply.
So for me, texting over calling.

I agree with Wonders.
You have the ability to delay and leave time for between responses so I would like texting better.
Even though you can easily express emotions, depth and emphasis on voice phone calls, the freedom is there.
When in a noisy environment, you won't be able to hear the recipient nor they can hear you or let's say you are
in a public transport such as trains and buses, some people might think it is awkward to talk while everyone is silent
so this is why I prefer texting over voice calls.

I prefer both texting, and talking. I prefer texting whenever I'm occupied with something, or in class. I prefer talking on the phone, when I have a lot to talk about, since texting takes longer, as oppose to just speaking.

Texting over calling for sure! I don't like it when people call me because it's generally annoying to people around me. The convenience factor for texting is amazing! I also feel that you can generally get more of what you want to say over text because you don't have to spontaneously think about it. You are given more time for what you want to say, so overall, it's faster and better (being more direct).

Texting, for the same reason as OP, but sometimes i get sick of typing and wish I was talking to them on the phone or in person.

I had a smartphone, and I used to use that to text all the time. Now that I have a basic phone again, I am just calling people all the time. I would rather do that. If I am making some plans, I don't want to take 10 minutes texting to do that, I'd rather talk to them over the phone and have instant, voice responses. If I am having a conversation with someone, I want to hear there voice, and speak, not stare at my screen and have a conversation that should have taken 10 minutes take 1 hour.
If I am telling someone, "Be there in 5" or something like "Are you going to here" or "did you get this?" where the conversation will be 3-4 texts, that is acceptable. If we use texting all the time for conversations other than these, we won't remember how to actually talk to people when in person.
I feel I am alone on this though, because many people are surprised to hear their call ringtone instead of their SMS tone. I just can't fathom someone preferring a conversation through text more than a conversation in voice.

I prefer texting. My girlfriend calls me all the time and it's kind of annoying. I'd rather be multitasking.

Calling someone and talking to them is much easier. Like when you are driving.

It really depends on the situation, if I'm busy and doing something then texting is always more efficient.
However if it's quite late and I'm bored I don't mind calling or face-timing someone as it's a lot more entertaining.
