Social Engineering prisoner escape via phone... #1
Just read an article that I found extraordinary and amazing from how far social engineering can be used these days even being in prison.
Quote:This includes ‘diversion theft’ (stealing something to steal something bigger later) and tailgating (piggybacking people into secure areas that should ordinarily be off limit). One convicted fraudster even used social engineering to escape from prison in the UK recently. The fraudster used an illicit mobile phone to create a fake email account, posed as a senior court clerk and then sent his ‘bail instructions’ to prison staff. He was mistakenly released but later handed himself in.

Although the documentation In the article defining SEing Is pretty much standard practice, I thoroughly enjoyed reading It.

The power of exploiting the human firewall, should never be underestimated.

As you may of heard, I always think in the back of my head that, humans are the most vulnerably to gather information. But yes, the article is amazing especially the prison outbreak.

And you're 100% correct.

You can have the best security measures Implemented, all the IDS/IPS systems and WAFs In place but If the user behind the PC simply hands over the password due to a well-crafted social engineering attack, the technical side of It (security) Is futile.
