Why would you want to run it alongside another? Give it a try for a week, then do what you want.

When I used Windows I had Malwarebyte with ESET or Avast (maybe MSE would be good too)

I only use Malwarebytes Anti-malware and add all the programs/applications to EMET. I haven't had a problem for awhile so maybe doing this may work out for you?

Symantec was good back around 2007, but now they are pretty crappy. There are even rumors that they might be stopping their anti-virus soon.

Symantec/Norton back in 2007 was absolutely terrible. Consistently caused issues with systems, broke things, killed internet connections, and otherwise was a cunt. The Norton Software Removal Tool was a regularly used utility in my gear set. They finally got their shit together in about 2011/2012. The most recent stuff I worked on for a client of mine still seemed ok, but they have the Norton 360 suite and it's far too much. If you go with Norton, stick with the antivirus/antimalware tools, not the Internet Security or 360.
