Agreed.

The same applies to the clearnet - you can spend your entire life digging through It, and you'd barely scratch the surface.

The dark web is often portrayed as a place where all sorts of illegal activities take place, but the reality is that it is just a small part of the overall web and contains mostly mundane content. In fact, many of the things that are often associated with the dark web, such as illegal drug markets and hitmen for hire, are actually just scams designed to take advantage of people who don't know any better.

Also, accessing the dark web requires specialized software and can be difficult for the average person, which means that most people who use the regular web will never even come across it. Overall, the dark web is often overrated and over exaggerated in the media.

100% almost anything that can be found on the dark web, can be found on the clearnet as well. The "dark web" obviously being safer keeping you more anonymized. The biggest part of the dark web is the drug market.

Agreed.

It's one of the most sought-after commodities on the dark web.

Its generally been blown up to a larger-than-life conspiracy. The content is real, there is everything illegal under the sun. However, the same content makes its way around Telegram, VK, even Facebook. The veil of semi-anonymity it affords the user is the only thing creating a concentration of this content on the network.

Earlier on there were more reputable markets and you can certainly still find some, but to this point the increased popularity has increased the rate of people not even going for a bait-and-switch but just creating completely fraudulent markets. However, real ones still exist, albeit more restrictive.

Most hitmen and trafficking that occurs over the Tor network are scams, or government plants waiting for someone to make a request.

As a whole, its a varied network full of legitimate content, crime, scams, and plenty of illegal content. Sounds very similar to...the rest of the internet.

So just to clarify you're saying you do have interest in drugs and guns? Lmfao

I tried it one time many years ago and I lost patience pretty quickly because I found nothing interesting for me

i was there a few times and found nothing special.. maybe some people happier with it, for me as a random guy living his normal life, there is no need of the dark web.

In the Silk Road days, perhaps it deserved its reputation... There's plenty of stuff on Telegram we've refused to advertise. There's nothing exceptional about TOR asides from its reputation (which is dated).

I wouldn't say overrated. It depends on what you're using it for. When you hear "the dark web" you probably think of shit like selling drugs, guns, stolen personal info, etc. That's not all what it's about, though. While these types of things do happen on the dark web, it's also a place where people can talk with each other and share info in a more secure/anonymous way.

The dark web gives us a level of privacy and security that isn't really possible on the regular internet and because of this, it makes it a helpful/valuable tool for journalists and/or political activists who wanna talk about potentially sensitive topics without being scared of backlash. Some countries also have really strict censorship/internet laws, which the dark web can help them bypass. With all that being said, I'd say that the dark web isn't overrated, but instead gives a unique service for certain people/groups who need it for their own reasons.
