Is dark web overrated? 12-09-2022, 05:31 PM
#1
Saw a similar thread, but I wanted to know everyone's thoughts.
The dark web is often portrayed as a place where all sorts of illegal activities take place, but the reality is that it is just a small part of the overall web and contains mostly mundane content. In fact, many of the things that are often associated with the dark web, such as illegal drug markets and hitmen for hire, are actually just scams designed to take advantage of people who don't know any better.
Also, accessing the dark web requires specialized software and can be difficult for the average person, which means that most people who use the regular web will never even come across it. Overall, the dark web is often overrated and over exaggerated in the media.

The dark web becomes boring after a few hours of browsing. Drugs? They can be bought in real life. Guns? They can be bought in real life. Illegal pornography? I have no interest in viewing.
The most interesting things on the dark web are image boards. They're easy to find, and have quite a bit of interaction.
So yes, the media does certainly sensationalize things. Mostly because clicks and view time are what's most important to them.

I'd say overrated. It gained a lot of attention for Silk Road, red rooms, and similar. People commit crime just as much offline and clearnet, so there's nothing special.

There's other darknets is the thing and TOR seems more like a way for them to anonymously access other sites like for hacking purposes when they have high security standards than anything else. They also go through a ton of universities and things. It's not peer to peer like other ones are.
Most of the sites seem fake or like they're honeypots and people are busted left and right. Sites get closed then get put on the darkweb shortly after.
You can accomplish anonymity in other ways but tor is free. Keep everything separate and don't use it for regular things. I use their dns but not the rest on regular traffic.
It was also the navy who made it. You can find WikiLeaks about what tools the CIA uses on there and it's very interesting.

Honestly, it's not. It just takes a lot of time to really get access to all of the more exclusive onion links and what not.
It's true that a LOOOT oof sites are scams though since it's paid with crypto it's really easy to do that there's maybe a dosen clones of the same site 😂
I personally have used it for ADHD meds and other hard to get to medications and let's say stuff since i like it way better and safer than in real life.
I also have used it to download books and stuff and also pique my ADHD brain with useless old army techniques and archives. Dark web is all about digging and digging, if you're not into that it's not for you
