A lot of forums such as NGU have a thank you button on each post. Its actaully a really nice feature that I 100% support.

Actually it doesn't add any extra points. SL already uses SP for purchasing things. Next time try doing research before you falsely state.

Are you mentioning that out of spite of Reddit, and upvoting? Thanking a post shows how helpful the post is, especially when sharing coding advice, SE techniques or anything else. It's also a lot more efficient than people bumping the thread just to say "thanks" or "it worked for me".

Because all forum/community voting systems turn into a circlejerk. Remember when people would comment on 4ch "sage" even though it does nothing? And on reddit people get downvoted just for having different opinions. There's no reason for a vote system and all it does is encourage shitposting.

This isn't voting as much as it is thanking the person. Polls are for voting, that's why people put them up when they want to.

We're not upvoting or downvoting anything. Is a simple "thanks" too much that it would really devolve the current topic? I fail to see how that system would encourage off-topic or low quality discussion. SL might not be Reddit, but it's not 4chan either.
