What it comes down to( which has always been true ) is that when you cram a large amount of not extremely well off people into a small area, bad things will happen.
The US crime rate is lower than other countries because of the large amount of rural communities( AKA the entire midwest ), as opposed to places like the UK, where people living in the countryside permanently is the exception, meaning that the working poor are all in roughly the same area.
As for the guns thing, I don't think anyone argues that restricting rifles will significantly reduce murder rates. If I want to kill someone, I'll be bringing a pistol, not a rifle. The reason to take a look at how we sell rifles( why CAN'T the US have a database of high-powered rifle owners? ) is not to reduce the murder statistic, but to make mass shootings considerably harder, and make it more expensive for organized crime to acquire rifles, too.

This guy makes some good points, but I have some input of my own. The reason crime is so high in urban areas is because of the ghettos and projects that the cops are to scared to go into. And because of that, crime in Urban areas will never go down no matter how many more cops are hired because it won't change the fact they won't go into the ghettos and projects. As for guns, I'd like to quote the NRA, "The only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun." While personally I have little respect for the NRA, there are many people who think the same way as the guy who said that. So for them owning a gun is their peace of mind. Because of that I do not believe taking away guns would help, but better gun control would help. Like for example a bill was just turned down because of a hillbilly minority in the senate that, if it would have passed, would have allowed monitoring of gun sales online. Instead any freak can buy a gun online, and that's the big gap in our gun control.
