Beautiful stuff, I approve so heavily this is actually the first thread I've ever bookmarked ( I have been thinking of giving Linux a try but my limited know-how in swapping entire fucking OS' makes it intimidating ).

Great stuff, Roger. You're as HQ and helpful as they get.

Just use Virtualbox. If you fuck up downloading a Linux flavor, nothing bad will happen. It's perfect with messing around and understanding Linux while still using your current OS.

Edit: Ayyy lmao. Roger's got you covered with Virtualbox. Listen to him.

Hence my enthusiasm for it. I'm not as savvy in software as I used to be, so I assumed putting down an OS would be a la Bootcamp.

Long, aggravating, and ultimately not worth.

@mom thank you very much for your kind words, I greatly appreciate it. I'm glad to know you found this post helpful and informative. My plan is to begin expanding it into the next section after the first of the year 2015. what I'd LOVE to do is eventually write and publish an ebook on the subject.

I really wish you the best of luck and think you have what it takes to make that eBook. As said, I'll keep this under my eye but if you ever do get to finishing an entire book, do tell me/everyone on SL. Certainly something I'd like to read.

Was expecting more explanation of Linux like
Advantages / Disadvantages of using Linux
Why it may be better than MAC or Windows.
What can Linux do and what Windows can't.
etc.
Anyway the tutorial is great very informative and clear.

This Is probably one of the best Linux Introductory threads I've come across In a forum, and I've been around on many forums during my travels.

Superb to say the least, well done.

Let me address something to all the new Linux users on this forum:

Don't use a Linux distribution just because it's recommended to you by someone. Google the pros and the cons of the distribution and see if it's the cons you're willing to work with and the pros over power the cons in the distribution at hand.
