Email services #1
What email provider(s) do you guys use often? I'm looking to migrate away from gmail a little and need some suggestions. I currently use gmail for school, most of my online accounts, and a throwaway for spam crap that I'm too lazy to unsubscribe to, then I use protonmail for work and some professional stuff. I used to have an account on cock.li, but I'm not a fan of the whole "we recycle your account if you're away for too long" thing.
It's often the outcasts, the iconoclasts ... those who have the least to lose because they
don't have much in the first place, who feel the new currents and ride them the farthest.

Having an OG Hotmail account can be pretty sick. Other than that, having your own IP Email.

cock.li is nice, vc is a nice guy. i mean if you want ultimate security and ultimate paranoia just run your own. personally i dont trust myself for that shit so i just use scryptmail's custom domain feature.

I use protonmail, it's fast, pretty secure and has a pretty descent app as well. I like it so far, I joined in the development phase and they're still working on it.

I also heard Lavabit is back (used by Snowden apperently), which looks pretty descent as well. I just don't like paying for my email accounts.

Precisely, why should anyone pay for an email service.

@Inori, when choosing an email provider, just make sure the email "address" cannot be recycled due to x-amount of days of account Inactivity. Gmail does not recycle email addresses, but Microsoft (example, Outlook) and Yahoo do when the account Is Inactive for a certain period. This means the email address (not the "account") may be available for registration to the general public.

As @sleaze said cock.li I have a number of dumpy emails that I use for things that, I may need later but, do not care if some thing is stolen or lost. For slightly more critical things I use openmailbox because they're one of the few "secure" email providers that allow you to use IMAP and what ever. For personal things, like bank, car, hookers, what ever I use my own server with my business email and all that jazz.

Just need to fit it to your needs really. I'd say if you're looking to get away from gmail and you're tech savvy , running your own email server is your best bet.

I run my own email servers with my own domains.

Like Botanicals, I have a private email server that I host with A Small Orange. I used to run the server right out of my home, but every once in a while my internet or power would go out and cause some problems.

Hello,

for secure stuff I use Protonmail with 2FA.
Gmail is good enough for day to day business.
