There is always this inherent risk. Then again, people can hide things when you meet face to face too. They may not be hiding their gender IRL, but they may be hiding a marriage ring, or something else. You just never know.

The advice given on this thread is sound: Screw the books, go out and talk to women, even if it's online.

No dating course will ever teach you how to successfully date, because women are people, and therefore every single one is different, with different interests, personality, habits etc etc. The best way to learn, is to get used to spending time with people.
