Personally, I don't trust any security features native to the Windows platform, In this case namely BitLocker. You never know for sure whether It's backdoored. I use VeraCrypt as my main form of encryption- both boot and removable drives.

the problem of veracrypt it survives by donation right? won't that be a risk? the company can close from one day to the other or just decomission their support
this does make me concern in using their product.

Even If It's not supported, It doesn't render the software useless. It'll still be functional.

It's like Windows XP- support ceased many years ago but the OS runs fine. Irrespective of the type of software/tool used, always create and keep a backup of your files.
