Apartment for sure. Although I would love to own a nice big house, I don't like the idea of taking care of the whole thing lol. A nice looking apartment is in my opinion a better choice.

I used to own a home, with a huge back yard on a massive block of land.
I generated a lot of time maintaining both the house and garden. Never again, will I purchase a house.

I would love a house, only because I already have an apartment. Also, with this craziness with Covid, the lockdown, a house would be a lot better.

20-30 years of rent payments could easily pay off the mortgage on a house. Houses can appreciate in value over time, whereas you'll get no return at all from paying rent on an apartment. That said, apartments normally offer certain amenities, like less maintenence/liabilities. For short term arrangements apartments are more reasonable.
