Talking from experience, having siblings which ages are so far apart usually doesn't end well. It always results in neither getting along too well because they share little in common due to the age gap. It also sometimes results in one having dominance over the other resulting in lots and lots of fights. This is especially true if there are no children in the middle. I do, however, see the appeal of having a gap between children from a parent's perspective.

Hmm... Now I can't really remember my reasoning with the sibling thing.
I think wanted there to be a large enough age gap for independence, but not too large of a gap to the extent where they don't speak often or can't relate at all...
