Exactly this, unless the USB was externally powered then it would struggle to generate the power...
For arguments sake lets say we remove the usb safety feature and it can pass power through the entire system.
The best bet would be maybe an external hard drive that required two USB's plugged in, that way you could at least create a circuit and generate more heat / power rather than just deliver a payload, you could also install small batteries.
But then things would get expensive sooo.
