somewhat unrelated to this thread, but a bit of a lulz none the less.
Once upon a time I worked for a well known big box computer repair facility. My boss had recently built a computer and couldn't get it to work right. I did some troubleshooting and found it wasn't POSTing and it was related to the proc. Turns out he used HALF A TUBE of thermal paste on his processor. When I pulled it apart there was arctic silver all over the pins and the socket and oozing onto the mainboard. I spent 2 hours (on the clock mind you) cleaning up his personal machine and getting it to run.
