Ok i think i can help a little.
You need to boot into your Ubuntu USB.
Fire up a Terminal, Type- without quotes "sudo apt-get install aircrack-ng"
or you'll probably find it under Package Manager.
Then you'll need macchanger - "sudo apt-get install macchanger"
Use airodump-ng to monitor the access-point you wish to connect to, You'll have to wait for someone to connect to the access-point and note there MAC-add. Then you can use macchanger to change your mac-add to the one you have written down (which is allowed through the filter).
There could be other ways but this will work. I use Backtrack myself as all the tools you'll need are already in with the distro.
Hope this helps..
