I am wondering whether Oni is just lying to himself, or lying to everyone else. Or perhaps a bit of both.

I think it will be a miracle if they get the data back within the near future, or even at all for that matter. Even the Ecatel rep said as much. The legal process is long and that server is evidence.

The reality is that you may likely never get your content/data back. And if by chance you do it will be at a point where it really does not make a difference. I think Oni is hoping people won't notice and just move on.

Regardless of that though - it's a piss poor excuse for administration. No offsite backups for over a month? Particularly after a major change like the merging of another massive community? People have been fired for a lot less than that.
