Call me crazy but I'd recommend Comodo Internet Security. It includes a host-based intrusion protection system and an outbound (and inbound) firewall. If you're able to properly configure these and not just allow them to run in their automatic, default settings, you'll be quite satisfied.
Also, to those who say you don't need an AV, try dealing with people who actually have 0day and say that... although AV isn't going to do much against that type of threat. You'd be more interested in a HIPS and some sort of change detection/reversion like Tripwire and DeepFreeze.
