A good example of such an occurrence in the christian churches is how the old testament specifically forbids shellfish, wearing clothes with more than one fabric, and so much as thinking about another man's wife. Obviously, 99% of people that would identify as christian don't obey these edicts, but they are still a part of the teachings.
No, it isn't really there. Islam does not forbid anything like that. It actually teaches you to embrace the sciences. The early muslims were at the pinnacle of scientific learning and research, into many fields such as medicine, astronomy, biology, optics, mathematics, and many many others. Saying that islam teaches to "deny modern medicine" is ignorant.
