Satan's recommendation on doing a 25 post limit until links can be posted is effective, in my experience. Many spammers won't want to put in the effort only to be banned for spamming. This could potentially handicap ordinary new members, but it shouldn't last too long if they post regularly.

Well its not even that, just remove links from being active in a post until the link is approved by a moderator, or until the user has 25 posts.

Within 25 posts, you're usually able to get a feel of what someone is here for. Stops backlink leeching in its tracks, and doesn't necessarily screw new members over, unless they are going to rage about having to build up trust in order to post links. Provided the links are actually moderated and approved if they are appropriate, there shouldn't be an issue to legitimate newer users posting a valid on-topic link.
