Anger may not be as useful now as it was back in the days of fight or flight, but it still has its place. Anger is a huge motivator for people. If you are displeased with something, anger will focus you on improving whatever it may be. It lets you know a change needs to happen. In conjunction with many angry people, huge changes (for the better) can happen. For example, gay rights, blacks equality, female equality... etc. Anger doesn't always have to be released as pure hatred. As those are different things.
Anger may not be ideal for fighting, but I would argue that in other dangerous/intense situations in comes in handy. Situations where you need a quick relief from pain to escape, or defeat an obstacle. All the adrenaline produced may save your life.
