A College Student Wrote His Senior Thesis on Counter-Strike Players Talking #1
A college student reportedly wrote his senior thesis analyzing the hyper-specific language used by Counter-Strike 2 players.

He studied things like callouts, comms, slang, abbreviations and the way players communicate information during matches.

His argument was that CS2 players have developed their own evolving sociolect, essentially a specialized way of speaking shared by a particular community.

Think about how much vocabulary a regular player understands instantly that would sound completely meaningless to someone who has never played. “Ramp.” “Default.” “Lit.” “Swing.” “Trade.” “Rotate.” “Save.” “Flashed.” “One HP.” It’s basically a miniature language built around speed, teamwork and shared knowledge. Gaming communities are getting so linguistically complex that people are literally studying them academically now.
