Chaika: The Coffin Princess is one of those anime I barely see anyone talk about anymore. If you like Overlord, but want something that feels more like a forgotten 2010s fantasy anime, give this one a shot.

The story follows Toru, a former soldier living in a world that just came out of a massive war. Then he meets Chaika. She travels around carrying a coffin and claims she’s collecting the remains of a dead emperor.

The world is full of magic, different factions, former soldiers, monsters and people still dealing with the aftermath of the war.

What I like about it is that the story doesn’t immediately throw everything at you. You slowly find out what’s actually going on with Chaika, the emperor and the world they live in.
Toru is also a pretty good MC if you like characters who can actually fight instead of just standing around. The fights are underrated too. There’s magic, weapons and some really interesting abilities without the series feeling like another generic power fantasy.
It also has that old school fantasy atmosphere that a lot of newer anime don’t really have anymore.
