Part of what makes life valuable, is that it's temporary. There's always a natural urge to survive and establish some form of permanence, but it is foolish to fixate on having a bloodline or passing down genetics... Eventually our genes will become diluted and even nonexistent. With overpopulation and finite resources, people should only have kids if they are financially stable and doing so for the right reasons.
It's pretty much a guarantee we all are, to a varying degree. Whether it was the Mongols, the Romans, or the Vikings... Rape has unfortunately occurred during war/expansion.
