My tips ;

• Don't rely on free stuff when making a public website (e.g. Domain, host, etc.). It makes things look less appealing.
  
  
• Make sure you know what you're doing and that you won't give up easily. Have dedication when making a website.
  
  
• There are many new forums out there with the same subject/theme. Make your forum stand out from all of them.
  
  
• Provide content for your users. Don't just rely on them to do all the work.
  
  
• Don't showcase your site until it is 100% ready and there are little to no bugs on it.
