Picking a subject you like or know alot about.
Bring content to the site.
Invest time and money
Don't rely on free stuff when making a public website (e.g. Domain, host, etc.). It makes things look less appealing.
Make sure you know what you're doing and that you won't give up easily. Have dedication when making a website.
There are many new forums out there with the same subject/theme. Make your forum stand out from all of them.
Provide content for your users. Don't just rely on them to do all the work.
Don't showcase your site until it is 100% ready and there are little to no bugs on it.
