To be totally honest, this email monitoring was for advertisements only through gmail?
I can't say I use gmail for anything other than allowing me to have google drive access (not through choice) and so I can "like" videos on youtube. I can honestly say, it's possibly the least of my concerns when it comes to monitoring behaviours.

I'd sure hope so. All my emails except my school one is on the Google servers.

Wow Google is so nice. Finally they don't scan our E-Mails anymore, which aren't supposed to be private at all, lol.

And for not skimming through our E-Mails anymore, they use other sources for gathering their desired information.

In the end, nothing changed. The more you read about Google, the creepier it gets imo..

I've heard that they keep microphones constantly recording 24/7 and using that to advertise. Is this true?

As far as I know, no. But they may use your voice when you do searches (i.e. Google Now).

Chrome has a built in feature that is always listening for "OK, Google".
Your voice is most likely sent to them "to improve their services".

Same with Android, but listening in all apps depends on your setup.
