Google Will Stop Reading Your Emails For Gmail Ads - Ecks - 06-24-2017
Google will soon stop scanning emails received by some Gmail users, a practice that has allowed it to show them targeted advertising but which stirred privacy worries.
The decision didn't come from Google's ad team, but from its cloud unit, which is angling to sign up more corporate customers. Alphabet's Google Cloud sells a package of office software, called G Suite, that competes with market leader Microsoft. Paying Gmail users never received the email-scanning ads like the free version of the program, but some business customers were confused by the distinction and its privacy implications, said Diane Greene, Google's senior vice president of cloud. "What we're going to do is make it unambiguous," she said. Ads will continue to appear inside the free version of Gmail, as promoted messages. But instead of scanning a user's email, the ads will now be targeted with other personal information Google already pulls from sources such as search and YouTube.

Wow Google is so nice. Finally they don't scan our E-Mails anymore, which aren't supposed to be private at all, lol.
And for not skimming through our E-Mails anymore, they use other sources for gathering their desired information.
In the end, nothing changed. The more you read about Google, the creepier it gets imo..

I've heard that they keep microphones constantly recording 24/7 and using that to advertise. Is this true?

I read something similar in the news lately. It was about webcams and microphones. Imo it's totally possible that they do that, I mean after all you are never really "safe" once you do something in the internet.
Good solutions could be to cover your webcam if you have one, and remove the cover only, if you REALLY use it. Same with your microphone, just plug it out, if you don't need it.
But I think others might have more insight on this topic, since I rarely read about these things.

What the fuck ever. A lot of the big companies say this stuff and then a several months later... "Ooops! We goofed and didn't realize [xyz] was still there and it has come to our attntion that it's been abused. Sorry! Won't happen again! Pinky Promise!"

Even if they stop analyzing immediately, I imagine they'll archive them and manually go through so they can get more detailed information. Then again they might not even be telling the truth with this. I like Google but I don't trust them at all.

As far as I know, no. But they may use your voice when you do searches (i.e. Google Now).
