In terms of personal choice and preference, there's no right or wrong, each to their own.
An analogy to this Is, I prefer the "Windows" platform whilst others are tailored to Linux. Both serve their purpose, but In a different manner suited to the user. The same can be said regarding the Thanks and Like functionality.
