I wouldn't really use a knife for self defense. If you do, you should be prepared to get cut up as well.

I have been cut up before. That is why I carry a knife now. I was trained by a Krav Maga instructor for self defense.

With guns, you don't really have to get cut up. Krav Maga is kick ass.

Bullets run out, knives don't. Also you can't rely on just 1 source of defense guns jam, duds, ammo is limited if any of that happens in a fight and you have no knife or other self defense backup you are going to have a very short bad day that's of course until your final breathe leaves.

But this is coming from me, a prepper point of view.

I got guns, swords, knives, machetes, bows & arrows, primitive weapon making knowledge, spears, etc. Of course that can't all be used for EDC but you get the point.

You're assuming my gun will jam or I'll run out of bullets? I do agree knives are useful, but I'd only use one as a backup. I'm not experienced w/ knives, but I'm definitely a capable shot. Tongue

All it takes is 1 simple small defect on a bullet and it can cause a jam, or a faulty or old worn out clip. Now would you rather continue on assuming it won't happen to you or would you rather have some sort of backup?.

You don't got to be experienced with a knife to have one on you knowing it could potentially save your life.

Shit happens and all you can do is try to better prepare for it if it does happen.

I've fired my firearms enough to know the chances. The knife is secondary, based on those slim chances. I shoot my deer with my rifle and skin them with my knife. If I did it the other way around it would be quite humorous.

You should look into a good bow and buy some carbon express wolverine 6070 arrows for about $3 a piece at walmart they are very good arrows.

I got 2 bows 1 Bear White Tail Hunter set at about 50lbs and a Silverhawk XP at like 35lbs. anything above 25lbs will take a deer down but most states want 35lb+ my state has no limit. I actually plan on buying another bow.

That's a good thing about a bow is in a survival situation in some sort of SHTF scenario its quiet, effective and won't give out the position.

Never had an issue out of my knife. I've cut all types of shit I thought would destroy my knife (tie wire at 14 gauge per example)
