That's why there's tons of guides on using linux, that and server linux = easier than desktop linux from the one time I used it.

Ehh i know i used linux for server for bunch of years so i know Linux > Windows

I'm not so familiar with windows ddos mitigating how ever you could try to install wireshark and sniff the packets while a DDoS takes place ( Don't get kicked out of RDC Tongue )

After that you could try blocking the IP assuming its coming from 1 or less then 10 if you are lucky.

Get Linux Server, there are many Network Security tools for Linux that can help you save your server from DDOS including Iptables, Here's a good tutorial http://blog.bodhizazen.net/linux/prevent...-iptables/

Or you can use clearos community edition to let it do all of the work for you. Linux is your friend. Windows is your worst enemy if you cannot secure it from d.d.o.s.'s and d.o.s.'s. Clearos will fix that right up for you. No, I do not Google anything for anyone. That is where you come in. Self taught. Self learned. Means self sufficient. 1st rule of thumb when it comes to countering cyberwarfare.
