RE: Linux VS Windows - blackblaster - 06-19-2014 i love linux man i could do alot of things from being minimalistic to more complicated thing i remember a while back when i was doing some codes for conky. What annoys me is that nowadays lots of linux users(especially script kiddies) think they're superior and elite because they have to type some shell commands once in a while. Reminds me of some mac users that want to be different, look I'm a mac user!!! Oh and what exactly is wrong with liking a platform mainly because of it's software compatibility? Of course linux is more configurable and stable(if you know what you're doing), but I don't need it (apart from testing my website locally and testing exploits). That's why windows is definitely my os I will always choose. Reminds me of some mac users that want to be different, look I'm a mac user!!! I could give you some: No stability, Hardware issues, Software issues, Unstable API's and most of all, The problem with Money, Enthusiasm and motivation that results way too often into dead projects. Though some of these ofcourse also apply to Windows. RE: Linux VS Windows - BORW3 - 06-19-2014 Only reason Windows became a hit is because it wasn't free. Humans think " WOW, that OS costs more than the other, must be better" or,"How comes Linux Ubuntu is free? It must be so crappy that they beg people to use it" or " look at me, I got Mac Os it so costly, WOW!!!!!! Now I am better computer user than Windows users, forget about linux users." If people were to look at the specs, if during the windows boom people knew 10% of what they know now about computers, I don't think Windows would be a hit or have a single software developed for it, Apple would only be selling to people who think a big monitor = better processor, and Linux would be the boom. Also, what do you mean by "Software/hardware issues"? Issues in softwere are usually independent from the underlying OS, beacuse of abstraction. The same way, hardware issues are independent from OS because they happen many level "below" in the abstraction layer stack. Or did you mean hardware compatibility? If that is the case, please consider that it is no longer a plague on major distributions (while it used to be)***. There could be many reasons not to like GNU/Linux, but those are not clear to me :\ A better reason would be the tremendous number of minor distributions, some of which are (in my opinion) completely useless (see Debian Family Tree). Reminds me of some mac users that want to be different, look I'm a mac user!!!While I agree with you, I would just point out that some Windows or MacOS users do the same with different arguments ("Windows is better because it comes pre-installed "...). I'm saying this just to level the playing field. *** For instance, consider that NVIDIA always releases drivers for GNU/Linux, and that GPGPU clusters based on CUDA around the world run GNU/Linux (see JUDGE and many others). RE: Linux VS Windows - g1en2O - 06-20-2014 Linux is the exploiter - windows is the exploitee RE: Linux VS Windows - L0aD1nG - 06-20-2014 I see so many people here speaking about linux or bsd with bad arguments and hate...defending the HUGE corporations that almost run the world now with their spying-backdoored oses they produced and i wanna ask... You say you dislike linux or bsd... 1) How many of you used everyday linux or bsd for more than 1 month? 2) How many of you used a linux or bsd distro except that crappy Ubuntu shit which is abandoned from the community? ( Check what stalman and free software foundation said about them dont attack me for that Ubuntu pussies i dont even give a fuck for them i wont even answer on something about ubuntu its totally time waste for me. ) 3) How many of you sat down and realize how many benefits from THE OS (and not programs written for it ) you have when using linux or bsd? 4) How many of you studied about how noob filesystem NTFS works? At last i believe that is so few of you that used for real linux or bsd and real distros not newbie Ubuntu ones... And the people that used linux or bsd the right way and they still choose windows for sure dont speak like the other morons i totally respect their choice of the os cause they respect the general facts and speak trully. So that attack is not to the people that know what linux or bsd really is and choose mac or windows for their reasons, that attack is to the moron windows-mac lovers that cant even type "cd /" on the terminal and come to us and criticize linux or bsd distros and they give all that hate for FREE OSes WHICH ARE BEING DEVELOPED BY PEOPLE MOVEMENTS NOT CORPORATIONS AND THAT WAS BUILT TO KEEP THE FREEDOM ON! Please note that, in the Preface of the article you cited, in the fourth paragraph, the author says: "I want to make one thing crystal clear - Windows, in some regards, is even worse than Linux and it's definitely not ready for the desktop either", then he lists some problems with Windows. Some paragraphs below the author also says: "If you get an impression that Linux sucks - you are largely wrong", and lists some positive aspects of GNU/Linux. This article seems pro-GNU/Linux in fact. However, I don't have much confidence in this source, since it is gray literature and, while some points are well documented, some other are not, and the author just gives links to posts on blogs (like blogspot or google+) where users simply express opinions. Moreover, there is not a serious bibliography.
