Wow, didn't you know that forum owners have to be clairvoyant?

These backups though, once every month mate, that's the way to do it lol. Also, you can't get anything back if the servers got seized until few months pass so stop the shit for the love of god lol. If this community lost something then that is because of you, your gay host and your fucked up backups, now deal with it mate and stop making up excuses.

"Long time being how long? The VPS is crucial to my business. I will pay anything for the contents of it."
"i have no answer for you, we are not the police."
"Have they not given you some form of timeframe? Would $100-200 be able to get us it sooner?"
"sir, police doesnt care. they dont care about us or you. they are the law. they think fuck them. i asked the tech guy he said maybe monday, now i cannot even reach them. it can take 2 days but it can also take a year. they are legal criminals. they NEVER EVER should take this data, we are working with a lawyer to see what we can do against it but takes time."
"This coming Monday?"
"no the monday which was beginning of this week Sad"
"Could I receive the contact information for the police that seized it? I may have my legal representative contact them."
"you can contact the dutch police and ask to redirect to [snip]. then you have the right unit. thanks.""

What a load of crap. No way in heaven a service agent is using language like that against one of their clients.
Maybe it's the language barrier. I didn't notice the lack of professionalism so much as the lack of proper grammar. But, now that I noticed it, it is quite funny. All quotes are 100% legitimate.

Prior to the VPS, I kept daily backups. When I get the data back, I will have daily on-site and off-site backups. I am considering legitimately involving lawyers, but it can be quite pricy. There isn't any excuse for what happened, although the majority isn't my fault.

Sadly, it appears that is expected of me.

You don't need to be clairvoyant.

You do need to be responsible.

Its not difficult or costly to have nightly offsite backups generated automatically.

RE: Blackout - OversouL - 11-14-2014

Man this sucks. I hope everything will be back to how they were.

Forum owners aren't robots, they're human. As a long standing member of Sinister.ly (possibly one of the oldest members left) I can tell you now, it's very rare that Oni makes a mistake. Sure, if it were me I would of had a more recent backup than a month but I'm rather sure Oni wasn't expecting to lose access to that data any time soon which is understandable.

You can't expect a human to become a drone while working on a forum, it doesn't work like that. If you have ever had the chance to run your own forum, you will know how hard and time-taxing it is and it's even worse when you have users like yourself calling him a shit admin.

One of the reasons I've been here as long as I have, is because of the friendship I've grew to have with Oni and some other members. I stand by Oni in every decision and mistake he makes because I know, no matter what happens, he's a good administrator. Nothing you or anyone else says can change that.

tl;dr: You're a lazy cunt, I took the time to write it, you take the time to read it.

Spoiler:
real tl;dr: Oni is a good admin, he just makes mistakes. He's only human.

That, and I didn't plan to keep us on that VPS very long. It happened at the wrong time.

I concur. Oni is a great admin, this is in no way the biggest thing that has happened to us and he's handled it immensely well.

Might be. Depends on whether I contact a lawyer and how long things take. I do have connections to some pretty decent ones. Doing my best.

RE: Blackout - bunnie_clyde - 11-14-2014

I am just glad this wakeup call happened in a non-permanent way. If someone broke in an rm-rf'ed the box the entire forum would be hosed.
