RE: Hiding behind your nickname? - hellomen - 11-27-2013 why hiding real names? Maybe because they think it's more secure for them. but what I always learned is simple: You're never safe on the internet. if hackers want to get your real name then I am sure they can get it some how. so well this is why I just say my real name in welcoming blablabla if they want to have it they can have it no possible way you can protect yourself from those hackers... RE: Hiding behind your nickname? - Snipa - 11-27-2013 You can always make it harder, its like you have a house, with a normal door, why do you close it if anyone can break it ? some people use thicker doors, it can be broke but its harder, some "hackers" may give up ! The idea here is simple, make it harder for your opponent :Thumbs-Up: Snipa RE: Hiding behind your nickname? - Snipa - 11-27-2013 You can always make it harder, its like you have a house, with a normal door, why do you close it if anyone can break it ? some people use thicker doors, it can be broke but its harder, some "hackers" may give up ! Exactly. Though, this is not exactly like housebreaking. The thickest door can be taken down in some way, but, with extreme carefullness, you can make it impossible for an hacker to find out your real name. RE: Hiding behind your nickname? - TheBlindHatter - 11-27-2013 @Deque my whole personal thing is this: better safe then sorry, rather have a couple copy cats then be swatted or rather have some noob pose as me then have soem noob with a doxer or white pages trying to "uber hack my life". If you want to copyright a program or work and still rmeain anonymous (or relatively so) copyright it under your alias there is no law against that. You set your alias ex: TheBlindHatter up as an entity or trademark you then set copyright up tied to that entity or trademark . Copyright in the United States and other major countries (UK, Australia, France, etc) is automatically created upon invention or physical formation/manifestation of an idea. To make that easier to understand: say you thought of an idea for a movie: that's not copyrighted under intellectual property, HOWEVER, if you were to make that movie (even if it was with a camcorder and a $5 budget) it will be copyrighted under your intellectual property. Now this can get confusing. If you want to SELL your work then you should apply for copyright with the US Library of Congress and Copyright Office. Why? Because anything copyrighted in the US is also copyrighted in most countries in the world (this does not work in reverse so copyright in the US). In short if you want to really protect your assets and make a profit you may have to trade a small bit of anonymity to do it. But there are always ways to protect yourself even then. (also as a side note you can protect your username in this way as well like what I've done: if someone were to take your username and you had trademark or copyright you can contact the company and have it removed or just take it like what I did with my twitter) If you have any more questions I'd be more then happy to help RE: Hiding behind your nickname? - TheBlindHatter - 11-27-2013 @Deque my whole personal thing is this: better safe then sorry, rather have a couple copy cats then be swatted or rather have some noob pose as me then have soem noob with a doxer or white pages trying to "uber hack my life". Though I say absolutely nothing on here that I wouldn't want associated with my real name, it just makes me a little uncomfortable that someone could Google my name and have a record of everything I've said online. I also hold a secret security clearance in the military and am applying for a position that requires a top-secret clearance. Although I don't do or discuss anything illegal and I despise those that do, unfortunately the public doesn't really understand the difference between ethical, legal hacking and black-hat cracking. I'd rather not have to explain why I'm posting on a hacker message board to people who don't understand anything about it. RE: Hiding behind your nickname? - bapediboopi - 12-02-2013 Actually when I was active (in olden times ) I never even posted on boards with the nick name I was known for, made new accounts practically every time And not even "cyberbuddies" I had known for 5-6 years knew my name or what country I came from... but then again theres no point in knowing. Its irrelevant information. We share the information where we all gain, but it makes no difference if my name would be John or Mike.. so IF you are up to something or if people can connect your nick to something, then at least come back pretending its the first time you're here if you wanna use your real name... with a clean slate sort of.Thats my thoughts on the subject at least, but then again I might be overly paranoid ![]() Hm, I can see that people today worry about hackers being the enemy, that was never the case before... or course we had our small wars. But this was new to me. The scene was better before I think :/ But I feel like an old fart saying that. hehe. |
