Well something that means to you.
Look at my name, FZEROX, it takes me back to my childhood.

It might not be the best nickname to be remembered but Im not a performer anyway.

How do you think about it? Why do you feel the need to hide or why don't you feel it?

My personal discrepancy at the moment: I rather tend to be cautious with my private information, because I can never take back what I did online and what I have done or told might be visible even after years without any possibility to remove it. But I have done a lot of software projects in the past which I want to be known with my real name. I want to put them under a licence and I want people to know who did this rather than using a nick that everyone could take.

How do you think about this matter?

that's right my brother.. i'm hide my name just for fun only.. i like my nickname "anacreon" it's make motivation for me to keep creative. Confusedmile:

The nickname is as good (or even better-see Breaking Bad series) as your real name. Some of us are using it to hide themselfs, some for fun and some for a pseudo 'alter ego' (see Wikipedia) (which seems to be the ideal character) -which we'll never be or don't have the guts to be.Anyway, the nicknames are looking more creative and fun than our real names (maybe too much TV and superheroes!). But whoever you are don't lie yourself - it's impossible. Maybe I should talk now a little bit about the 3 self images that all of us have. But it's not the time or subject, and it's a limited space for posting.Peace to whoever you are!

In my opinion is better if you do not reveal your real name on the internet. I understand that you want to create software and want to take the ownership with your real name but remember that if you put your real info on the net everyone has access to that information and you do not know what "this" person can do with that info. For me it will be better if you continue working with Deque and maybe later you can reveal your real info only by the circumstances and only if it is important to show your personal info.

While you feel you have done nothing wrong and so you have nothing to hide, that isn't true. Hide behind a name, as a matter of fact, hide behind many, as the less people know about you the better. There are trollers out there and hackers who can rip your life apart, regardless if you have done anything wrong or not, and its their thrill. Never release personal information about yourself, unless you plan on welcoming trouble into your life.

I don't think people around the internet need to see my real name.
On the other side, I don't really like my real name. I prefer my nickname.

My close friends (yes, iRL friends) usually call me by my nickname rather than by my real name. To be honest, I sometimes don't even react when I hear my real name, it's extremely common where I live, and that makes people use my surname instead... That one is rare, barely any people that have it remain, but it's hard to pronounce, and people doesn't really manage to write it down right unless I guide them... Just annoying.

Anyway, in my case there's nothing to hide. I try to be helpful and constructive anywhere I move around, and if my presence happens to be annoying somewhere, I just leave without big complaints.

Only thing I don't like telling is where I live, for example. It's common sense that it's not safe to give out that kind of information happily everywhere.

I even encourage you to google my nickname if you feel like it. It's a way to learn about me without asking.

why hiding real names? Maybe because they think it's more secure for them.
but what I always learned is simple:
You're never safe on the internet.

if hackers want to get your real name then I am sure they can get it some how.

so well this is why I just say my real name in welcoming blablabla if they want to have it they can have it no possible way you can protect yourself from those hackers...
