Now, I'd like to answer the thread before I answer this quote, so I'll get that out of the way. No I do not believe in any god or gods. As to how I can find motivation in life, that comes from a sort of "faith" I guess you could say. What I do, I do for others, or simply because I feel like it. I believe in those around me with all my heart, and to this date that has never failed me once. I am motivated to do everything I can in life, to enjoy myself and to make those I care about smile no matter what.

Gods should not be the only source of one's motivation or drive, that's just a ridiculously bad idea to pin hope and motivation on just the one thing

That is true. People normally become scared when they stop and look at life a different way. Instead of looking at it as "their life" they look at the world and realize how insignificant they really are. So they follow the ideal of gods, as it gives them all some universal meaning to life. They are all part of this grand plan set by a god, a plan no knows about or even knows if exist. But they believe in that, because it is easier than to believe that your own life has no meaning. It is a source of motivation, and god rarely is the only source for religious people, but for some it is.
I came to realize something when I was younger and had that sensation of viewing my own life as insignificant. That no matter how little my life matters, how little I change the world. I will be who I am, and work for what I want and do my best to succeed at those things. Because if I don't do that, my life will truly be pointless and insignificant as it wouldn't be "my life" but a life lived for the ideals of others. Such as a "god".

The thing is, Jehovah can be broken down into two words: Je and Hovvah. Je or Yah in Hebrew means "Lord, God" but the suffix of the word Jehovah (Hovvah) means "Wickedness, ruin, calamity, mischief, evil" so Jehovah translates to "God of Evil".

What the fuck religion are you talking about. Maybe thats a bit blunt but I think you're being severely persuaded by your own biases. God cannot make anyone do anything or then he would not be Omnibenevolent. If he wasnt omnibenevolent, he wouldn't be God.

Religion is a tricky thing. It's complex by it's own nature as it is physical beings trying to make sense of nonphysical things using our own physical realm's terms. Look into some major theories on the philosophy encyclopedia website.
Ultimately I do believe in a God. He may not be perfectly dictated by any one specific religion but I do believe in the existence. Look at the utter complexity of the universe and look me in the face and tell me that those odds are just extremely lucky in our case. It's unfathomable. Honestly I think what creates the most issues is that of miracles. Can they exist logically? I don't know.
Tread carefully however. This kind of thought process can send you into a pseudo-schizophrenia or lead to dissassociative disorder. Believe me, it isn't fun.

Control over the people would certainly constitute a malicious god. Christianity's God does not however impose any sort of control over anything. I really feel like the concept of God is worth looking into not because of religious reasoning but because of the implications of this life. For a lot of people, atheism comes bundled with Nihilism which can be awfully detrimental to a lot of peoples lives.
