RE: Power Surge/Faulty Power Supply - mothered - 01-18-2017 That's terrible. Situations like this will send me Into panic mode (that and "connection limited" on the Taskbar). I do hope the damage Is not Irreparable, and can be fixed asap. RE: Power Surge/Faulty Power Supply - JAX010800 - 01-18-2017 Had the exact same thing happen to me, just got a new PSU and was good as gold. No damage to other components. RE: Power Surge/Faulty Power Supply - Oni - 01-18-2017 Found out my case was faulty and the watercooling leaked down into the PSU and all over the CPU/Mobo. The storm and recent surges were just coincidental, as there was liquid all over the inside of the case. The loud pop was likely the tubes hooked to the radiator. I wouldn't recommend Deepcool or Gamer Storm's cases to anyone, despite how pretty they might be. @Skullmeat was also skeptical of them. It's possible the CPU/Mobo are salvageable, but I wouldn't trust them in the future. I ordered a Noctis 450 case, IX Formula mobo, and 7700k. I should get the parts today. I once accidentially spilled a can of dip spit onto the top of my case, and like 4 drops made it into the case and shorted the CPU and mobo RE: Power Surge/Faulty Power Supply - Oni - 01-18-2017 (01-18-2017, 01:40 PM)phyrrus9 Wrote:(01-18-2017, 12:58 PM)Oni Wrote: Found out my case was faulty and the watercooling leaked down into the PSU and all over the CPU/Mobo. In this case, I blame the case manufacturer. Another thing to consider doing, is wrapping your tubes in asphalt + rubber tape like they did with old knob and tube wiring, and then putting tin foil around that. Acts as a blanket to keep the heat from leaking into the case before it gets to the cooler (cars do this), and would've protected you from this spill RE: Power Surge/Faulty Power Supply - Skullmeat - 01-18-2017 I usually don't trust built in liquid coolers, especially from the less reputable brands like deepcool. Also @Oni did you check if that 7700k comes with a cooler? It may not. RE: Power Surge/Faulty Power Supply - Bish0pQ - 01-19-2017 @Oni sucks to hear that you lost your parts. Your HDD got affected as well? Sometimes you can recover some files after lightning damage if this is the case. What's the total cost of damage (if you want to share it), and have you tried contacting the case manufacturer? Maybe they can give you some money or something if you're lucky and they're friendly (I highly doubt it). RE: Power Surge/Faulty Power Supply - Customer - 01-19-2017 This is literally the WORST feeling. My power supply has shit out on me like 2 times. The worst feeling in the world is having your screen just go blank when you're really into a video game. RE: Power Surge/Faulty Power Supply - Oni - 01-19-2017 Alright, so I took out the parts that were salvageable and built a new(?) computer. I think the hard drive failed. So in the end I only lost the mobo, CPU, and PSU. My hard-drive died as well, but I had 1TB SSD handy. Unfortunately, it's likely I lost all of my data. The storm didn't cause any damage, as far as I know. It was just the faulty liquid cooling (which I didn't know about until opening the case). It did take my hard-drive, so I did lose all my files. |
