It's just a bad idea to host any kind of "active"(?) service on your local network. Even worse if you expose it to the public.
If you can get it online without connecting it to your home network, you could setup a honeypot on it and check it frequently for some any goodies.
If desired, you could even do something more frisky, such as hosting an anonymous ngircd service, or an XMPP service. God knows we need an even bigger abundance of those.

LXC and Build a PBX
Build a PBX within an LXC machine ooh. Seriously though Asterisk is super fun and not just because touchtones turn me on.

. Anyways I think there is like an asterisk setup that simulates the old lines and allows you to actually phreak the pbx with the right tones.

In the event that your website hosted on your computer connected to your LAN gets hacked, anyone who knows what they're doing would not stop at that computer. They will scan for other devices on your network, and they will succeed in hacking them.

Oh, thanks for the heads up my man. I understand the risks, but was thinking of this as a cheaper alternative. Maybe i won't end up using it for hosting a website, maybe just for private game servers.
