Why'd you start programming? - Inori - 06-13-2015

Everyone picks it up for one reason or another. For some, it was a school assignment run amok, and for others, it was something to do when they were bored. Why did you nerds start programming?

Personally, I started because of a bunch of things that fell in place perfectly. I joined HC off of some google search and I was immediately amazed by the work of @Psycho_Coder, @Ex094, @chmod, @bluedog.tar.gz, and the other Hack Community greats. Sadly, they're no longer here (well, psycho visits on occasion), but they were my mentors ever since I was a batch-coding script kiddie, and I aim to follow in their footsteps and possibly go further.

I wish I had the opportunity through schooling to learn a programming language.

Back In my days (with the good ol' Pentium 100 running "4MB" of Ram, "500MB" HDD), not many opportunities existed. In terms of programming, I've found It of Interest to see how a piece of script can be used as a functional entity, therefore I delved Into PHP. I do remember Ex094 and Pscho_Coder on other forums- they certainly know their stuff.

I joined the computer club in school. There were three tracks: Programming, Design and Videography. I remember my dad introducing me to C a while ago (like a few years before) and also I wasn't a fan of camcorders and art. So...yeah.

If you know @Deque, you may have missed the announcement that (s)he (idk) is actually a Python PINN program made by Psycho, which is all the more incredible.

my father was always showing me stuff as a kid related to computers so I guess I just wanted to become better than him
that and the fact that I was hopeless, lonely, fat, and generally just a full on neet.

I started learning so I can have a better understanding of modern day software and applications.

My step dad got me into learning HTML and CSS and taught me the basics years ago. From there I learned PHP and MySQL myself. Now I am learning more as and when I need them.

Haha a very few people remember this though lol.

What inspired me more to become a Programmer ?

Well I already answered a similar question on Quora so I will simply quote the same here.

Quote:
Programming is a passion, it is an art as well as a Poetry that shows how creative you can be and this feel kept me from quitting. I wanted to become as good as them who have inspired me a lot.

For me programming and learning about Computer Science is everything, its life. I never knew that there was a programmer in me. Even the day before taking admission in a university, I never knew I had to do Graduation in Computer Science and I thought of studying Mechanical Engineering. But I don't know why but I took Computer Science and that was the best decision I ever made. I live to code and I want to promote Computer science to the hearts of all as much as I can. Whenever someone has some confusion with programming then I devote myself to make them understand as much as I can, to make them understand a concept in a better manner.

I am learning yet and I am inspired by others who are far far far better than me with the goal that someday I will be as good a them or even better than them.

Programming taught me to be sincere focused and more importantly made me feel who I am and what I want to be in the future Smile

I got inspired from Deque, ArkPhaze, invisal, these are some of the greatest fellow programmers I know and I am still no where near as good as them. Its not like that I am just chasing them blindly but yes in a few years maybe I want to be as good as them Smile

That's all I have to say.

Ultimately why did I start programming? Well I started programming because of the stuff I saw that was made by other people. I told myself I wanted to make that stuff so I searched and searched. I ended up not liking very many languages. After a while I decided I needed to find something to do when I'm older work wise. I wanted a job that I could have fun with so I looked around for computer jobs and ended with programming. Again, I remembered that I didn't really like programming but I liked designing things. That brought me to CSS and HTML. So I guess I officially started programming because I wanted a fun job after I left high school. I'm currently learning PHP and JavaScript, then ending with MySQL. Though, I am a freshman in High School, but I like to plan ahead.

I think I started when I just browsed youtube for the stupidest stuff. Somehow, I ended up with something about batch files, asked my dad about them. He told me about programming. Then he handed me his C++ book and it all broke loose. Then I started HTML and PHP, didn't get around to CSS till as of late, Ruby, Python came next, and then Java, which is about where I am now. Oh Java. hah...
