Arch master race. You can also try the new and faggy Windows 10, or if you want to not be part of the Botnet (#botnetrace2015), Debian or one of its variants.

Hit a few VMs with different distros and see what you prefer.
You can Install your preference on your lappy thereafter.

If it's an old machine i reccomend a light-weight distro, this could fall under any of the ubuntu distro's i would reccomend 'xubuntu' which is personally my favourite distro.
However if it's a powerful machine or you're an advanced linux user i would definately go with ARCH, amazing, fast, and of course incredibaly open source.
TL;DR
bad laptop: any ubuntu distro.
good laptop: Arch

It isn't that bad of laptop but I would prefer a lightweight distro just because it isn't use for much at this moment. Anymore suggestions for light weight distros other than linux from scratch fuck that shit.
