@Ligeti that diagram is awesome, don't think I've ever seen it represented like that before but makes it easy to compare features quickly.

I'm personally using Fedora, which if you don't like "celebrity" distros would be a good choice as it gets a lot of hate! It seems pretty accurate though to be honest, hardware support could be better (Nvidia drivers are a pain and more often than not WILL break your xserver), but the nouvaru drivers work nicely and install properly, one other thing to note is SElinux is a massive pain in the arse and was quickly fired but other than that I've had no real issues with it. As for the desktop I think that's a little unfair as there are 6 DE's to choose from at install time and many more you could install if you felt the need.

But as you said it all comes down to personal choice and what you plan to do with the installation, each distro has it's own strengths and weaknesses, but after all if they where all the same what would be the point in having so much choice Biggrin

Talking about Nvidia... Smile

Nothing else to explain here I guess lol

Reason why I want to stuck with Debian is... "Freedom"! But again, if I want to stuck to that principle I would give up on Firefox (and I can't... even though I love Aurora but not sure if it has issues with "Free-Software" philosophy)

To be honest I don't remember testing Fedora ... ever! I tested everything else in the book though(so to speak), from FreeBSD/OpenBSD to OpenSolaris X (Yes I was into Unix) to OpenSUS, Mint, Ubuntu, and mini distros (the list is huge and boring)!

So maybe I should consider Fedora (or at least try it!)...

Thanks for the advice Smile

Peace

I love that video, had it on repeat while I was trying to get the propriety drivers to play nice (made me feel a little better at least) yeah I would say try it you have nothing to loose. I've never really ventured into UNIX but it kinda interests me to see what they do differently so I'll try it out at some point when I clear some room in my VM drive.

I never really got the Ubuntu/Mint thing I tried Ubuntu for a while and hated it, Debian is a solid distro and I used that for a while but wanted something new away from dpkg/apt and decided to try rpm/yum instead.

As for FF, it could be worse, you could be using IE or chrome and sending just about every keystroke to Microsoft/Google and at least it's open source

Don't say that out loud Tongue Geoff and blue think that Chrome is better than Firefox (and we don't want to start a "fight" over this lol)

It is really funny how this thread started and where it is now going lol

I think we could take 'em.

Yeah this has gone on quite a tangent but is still kinda relevant I think OP abandoned thread a while ago though but might be useful to anyone unsure of which distro to use so I'll leave it as is for now.
