I know mostly about Private Internet Access and Nord so far, but am considering trying out one of Proton's 'luxury' accounts next month on top. PIA was abandoned because the company was formed and founded in New York state, thus putting ALL their logs at the mercy of the government they serve under. Nord is run out of Panama I believe, which is not one of the 14-eyes countries that all report security findings back to US intelligence.
Proton, of course, is based in CH, so they can wipe their asses with anything any country sends them about anything as long as what you're doing isn't illegal in Switzerland, which they can't prove without getting the logs. Round and round they go! "We need your logs to prove this dude is doing illegal shit!" "Is this illegal shit illegal HERE?" "We don't know! We need you to tell us if he's doing what we think!" "Then I cannot turn over to you the records which might implicate him in these crimes because you do not have our logs supporting your argument that we need to give you our logs! Enjoy, Americans!"
And the nuclear bunker as storage for the physical servers is a bonus, as well as throwing in the fully paid email account with aliases and domains. I'd never trust a free VPN unless it was running on top of a paid VPN, and even then I don't really ever risk it.
A virtual private network tunnel is something that is absolutely worth paying for; Don't risk cracks, bypasses, stolen accounts, etc. Just take a single digit percentage of your monthly income and throw down on a non-14-eyes beholden, no logging VPN with TOR, P2P, and every other gorramn thing.
In about 6-7 days I'll post back about how Proton is working out for me, as well as if it stacks properly with my other virtuals to create multiple layers of protection.

My post was referring to dedicated accounts, that're not community property.

I certainly agree with spammers changing the password. It's happened countless times on this board.

"Money is the root of all evil" as some say, which I'd agree on. Many many companies are willing to sell your data to data firms for targeted advertisements and other sketchy things. I'm too far gone to cover up my online footprint, so there's not much of a use for me to actually use a VPN.
