I've owned several Sony consoles over the years and they're great, but you're limited by the games Sony has available. With a computer, you have access to more titles, and also the flexibility of upgrading or replacing parts when they break. If you don't have a computer, I would highly recommend building one. Pre-assembled machines and gaming consoles are great, but they're expensive. There's no sense in limiting yourself when you can have so much more.
The PS5 will likely be around $500, so for many it's a budget option. A computer can be built for much less, though it may not be capable of running games in 8K.
