hi ....up to now iam familiar with windows only but iam interestd in non windows os like unix and linux ...how to get on to those?can any one tell me?

You can download backtrack5, a version of Linux that contains popular hacking tools all primed and ready for usage. If your are not into hacking, you get Ubuntu. There are many variations of Linux as it is open source, but I prefer using these two.

Note : If you are quite familiar with windows, changing to Linux will be quite difficult, but you will get the hang of it in about 2-3 days. It took quite a while for me to adjust and adapt to using Linux, but that's just because I'm slow. Ubuntu is really noob friendly too.

if your only just switching i recommend you try ubuntu or mint before going to somthing like backtrack, also backtrack isnt designed to be a main OS more a live CD thing
